The power for UP train #104, the e/b “City of Los Angeles” pulls through the interlocking of Mission Tower just east of LAUPT, on Jan. 3, 1971. The five E’s in a A-B-B-B-A configuration will be put on the train, which has already been pulled up to the depot by a switcher, from the coach yards in East Los Angeles. At 12:20pm, the train led by E9A 908, will pull out of the depot and start its journey to Chicago. Only four months remain before AMTRAK day and trains 103/104 will be no more. This is one of those, ‘I should have snapped the shutter three or four seconds sooner’ shots. Oh well, try and duplicate this today!
