Racing Toward the Sunrise by Marty Bernard
Just as the sun was rising, CB&Q E7A 9918B was acting like a Zephyr with an Express Dinky on the Zephyr track. The markers were on a generator car to provide the hotel load of the gallery cars. The Q’s suburban trains had long before been given the name Dinky in comparison to intercity trains. The name stuck and this was a Dinky – don’t let your eyes deceive you. 9918B was about to cross Cass Avenue in Westmont, IL on January 4, 1965.
