Burlington Northern E8A 9940 leads a westbound Dinky past one of BN’s 14th St. Yard switch engines. BN 9940 was built as Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad EMD E8A 9940A (Built 01/50, Serial No. 9679, Order No. 2012, Frame No. 2012-A6). She was later renumbered BN 9940; Became BN E9Am 9903; Retired, sold to Canadian National as CN 102) She was one of a fleet of former long-distance passenger units that were maintained for service on BN’s former CB&Q suburban service between Chicago Union Station, Chicago’s western suburbs and Aurora on the Fox River. She is accelerating southward past the Railway Express Agency (REA) warehouse on Chicago Union Station Co. (CUSCO) tracks heading toward home rails.
