CNW 4087C on Lake Geneva train, Mt. Prospect, Il._JEL by James Lewnard
In the 1970’s the C&NW ran two trains to Lake Geneva in the afternoon rush hour. Both trains carried club lounge cars. In March 1970 F7a 4087C leads the first Lake Geneva train through Mt. Prospect at 5:10
PM. The club car is CNW 440, the Northwest Passage II, which was re-configured from coach 3461. Unfortunately the vestibule end of car 440 was severely damaged in a switching accident at the California Ave. coach yards later in the year. It was never repaired. The white building behind the train is Schimming Oil, which received tank cars of gasoline into the mid-1960’s. Photo by Jim Lewnard.
